Australian artist Maria Paterson is inspired by nature, subconscious memories, and human perception. Her mixed media drawings and paintings have received numerous commendations, and awards. She has actively participated in group exhibitions for over four decades. Maria’s artistic career has been enhanced by four solo exhibitions, and many group shows.

"Using mixed media materials such as inks, pastel and gouache, I interpret and form impressions of nature and the environment around me.  Sometimes I will start quite expressively, to feel the landscape or subject, letting my mind wander with the materials. Moving into a more considered and focused state, I apply layers over those initial marks combining different approaches within the same work. "

Teaching

I periodically hold workshops and art classes in the beautiful hinterland west of Bangalow in northern nsw. My experience includes teaching in adult education and high school with a BA visual art and Diploma of education.  My focus is not only skillful use of mediums, but the development of individual expression and clearing the pathways to creativity.
